Golf & Wine-Tasting at Makalei Golf Club, Hawaii PDF Print E-mail
KAILUA-KONA, HAWAII— Makalei Golf Club, a championship upcountry course overlooking the Big Island’s Kona-Kohala Coast, has announced three dates for its popular golf and wine-tasting event in 2010. Open to residents and visitors alike, “Golf Nine with Plenty Wine” offers a 9-hole round of golf followed by wine-tasting at sunset in the course’s beautiful mountainside setting. The quarterly event will take place on Fridays, May 21, August 27, and December 10.            

malakei-golf-club“Golf Nine with Plenty Wine” starts at 3 p.m. with nine holes of golf in a two-person alternate shot format. Prizes are awarded for winning teams and various special contests, including closest to the hole. At 5:30 p.m., guests gather at the Makalei clubhouse to enjoy a selection of wines, live music, and appetizers in an open-air setting designed to capture the cool mountain breezes and spectacular ocean sunset.

The golf portion of the event is limited to the first 20 two-person teams to register. The sunset wine-tasting is open to anyone age 21 or older, with or without golf. Cost is $60 per two-person team (or $30 for an individual) including 9 holes of golf, prizes, and the wine-tasting party. Cost is $15 per person for the wine-tasting only. Advance reservations are required.

Makalei Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course located on the lower slopes of Hualalai, offering a cool, scenic woodland alternative to the Big Island’s coastal golf course experiences. The course’s elevations range from approximately 1,800 feet to 2,850 feet, offering challenging play, panoramic views, and abundant nesting areas for pheasants, turkeys, peacocks, and other wildlife.

Makalei received a four-star designation in the 2008/2009 rankings of Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” and was named West Hawaii’s “Best Golf Course” in the 2007 and 2008 Annual Readers’ Choice Awards sponsored by West Hawaii Today. The course is located on the Hawaii Belt Road (Mamalahoa Hwy 190), a 10-minute drive from the Kona Airport.
