(CATHEDRAL CITY, CA) – Cathedral Canyon Golf & Tennis Club – owned by The Welk Resort Group and managed by Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – has introduced several new player programs for 2010 and showcases dramatically improved golf course conditions.

BCG began managing the golf operation at Cathedral Canyon – an amenity to owners within Welk Resorts Desert Oasis Vacation Ownership project and open for public play – in August 2009 and immediately sought to implement value-laden player programs.
The Player’s Card ($79 / year) allows golfers a free round of golf and five free range sessions in addition to $49 greens and cart fees from January through May and $18 greens and cart fees from June through September.
A Summer Player Development Program ($39) includes a free round of golf and reduced greens and cart fees of $19 in May, $15 in June and $9 July through September.
Cathedral Canyon also offers two membership programs – single and family – with unlimited golf, 20 percent off golf shop and dining room purchases, reduced guest rates, unlimited use of the practice range and 14-day advance tee times. Members pay a $1,500 initiation fee and $296 monthly for a single membership, and the initiation fee and $380 monthly for a family membership.
Cathedral Canyon employs an intensive agronomic plan under the guidance of Jerry Hall, the Golf Course Superintendent BCG hand-picked to direct the operation.
Among the completed projects responsible for enhanced conditions: renovation of on-course lakes leading to increased water conservation, new maintenance equipment and total sprinkler head replacement that upgrades coverage and decreases water usage.
“The turn-around in course playability is unbelievable, and we’re receiving rave reviews from regulars” says Darren Stanek, General Manager of Cathedral Canyon. “The many new and affordable programs have also gained considerable traction among golfers.”
The Cathedral Canyon Golf & Tennis Club at Welk Resorts Desert Oasis boasts one of the Coachella Valley’s most spectacular courses, an 18-hole, 6,505-yard championship layout. The San Jacinto Mountains provide a majestic backdrop for the tree-lined fairways, rolling terrain, 16 lakes and strategically-placed bunkers which challenge golfers of all skill levels.
Designed by renowned Southern California golf architect David Rainville and hall-of-fame golfer Billy Casper, Cathedral Canyon was built in the early 1970s and feature two, distinct nine-hole layouts -- Mountain View and Lake View -- that comprise the course.
Rounding out the amenities: A grass driving range, putting greens, fully-stocked pro shop, restaurant, lounge and banquet facilities for golf outings, weddings and other social engagements.

About The Welk Resort Group
In 1964, Lawrence Welk went for a drive in the country north of San Diego, planning to invest in a grove of orange trees. Instead he bought a motel and a nine-hole golf course. After Welk staged one of his shows at the site, it became a popular tourist spot and grew to include a theatre, more golf and eventually timeshare. Today, The Welk Resort Group operates Interval International (II) premier properties in Escondido, Palm Springs and Branson (MO), in addition to the time share operation they also operate a 2,200 seat theatre and 162 room Resort Hotel at the Branson project. Welk's grandson Jon Fredricks keeps the resorts – and the Welk Family traditions – alive.
Welk Resorts have been honored with Gold Crown status by Resort Condominiums International, a major worldwide vacation exchange organization.
