World Cup to Highlight Spectacular Golf in South Africa PDF Print E-mail
Soccer isn’t the only game that is expected to get a global boost when the world comes to South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. With spectacular golf also on display, PerryGolf’s Gordon Dalgleish says the nation’s reputation as an international golf destination will no longer be a secret.

pinnacle-point“Golf has a rich history in South Africa, dating to the days of Bobby Locke and, of course, Gary Player, and the game’s best course architects have done some of their finest work there,” Dalgleish says. “But it’s the combination of remarkable scenery – unlike what you’ll see anywhere in the world – and the opportunity to encounter exotic wildlife that give golf in South Africa its unique appeal.”

According to Grant Thornton Strategic Solutions, a global audit and advisory firm, 373,000 people (mostly Americans) are expected to visit South Africa during the World Cup period (June 11 - July 11), with each visit averaging 18 days. “With nearly a third of visitors expected to be non-ticket holders, golfers among that group are going to have plenty of opportunities to explore South Africa’s vast golf landscape,” Dalgleish said.

PerryGolf has announced three South African escorted tours for 2010 that take advantage of all the nation has to offer. In addition to golf at several of the nation’s finest courses, the tours include safaris guided by a personal game ranger, exclusive visits to wine estates, shopping and dining in cosmopolitan centers and tours along the famous Garden Route.

PerryGolf’s 12-night, four-round tour (available through October) includes golf at Steenberg, Pinnacle Point and Fancourt and two nights aboard the Rovos Rail. The world’s most luxurious train will travel 1,600-kilometers between Pretoria and Cape Town, combining magnificent scenery with the glamour and excitement of the golden age of rail travel. This tour, which also includes a safari, a visit to Cape Town, private guide and concierge driver, is priced at $13,215 for golfers, $12,100 for non-golfers.

A 10-night, four-round tour (available through October) that includes golf at Steenberg, Arabella and the Links and Montagu courses at Fancourt is priced at $5,595 for golfers and $4,995 for non-golfers. A nine-night, four-round tour that includes golf at Pearl Valley and Leopard Creek on the southern border of Kruger National Park is $8,795 for golfers and $7,995 for non-golfers.
